The Real Cost of Going Green: Conscience's Cost

The Real Cost of Going Green: Conscience's Cost - Bloomberg

Even though Earth Day -- our annual time to fret over the health of the planet -- is upon us, Americans have other, less global concerns, such as the cost of their own health. A recent Harris poll says that worries over health care reform and the presidential elections have put a dent in concern for the environment, with 34 percent of adults saying they are worried about the planet -- down from 43 percent in 2009. Still, Americans spend about $175 billion a year on eco-friendly goods and services according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

UPDATE: EU Climate Chief Aims To Slow New Emissions Credits - WSJ.com

BRUSSELS (Dow Jones)--The European Union's executive body will seek to slow the release of new permits on to the EU carbon market, the EU Climate Chief said Thursday, a move that could boost the sagging EU emissions trading market.  According to current rules, more of the permits, or allowances, will be released into the market in the early part of the 2013-2020 time-frame. But Climate Action Commissioner Connie Hedegaard told a news conference Thursday that it was time to reconsider the plan in light of a glut that has depressed prices.
